Virtual Friendships

Throughout my pregnancy I was part of a Facebook group of mommies who were all due in 2013. I was invited to the group through a mutual interest in babywearing, but I did not know any of the moms personally. It turns out that the members are from all over the United States. It was really neat to get to “know” some of the moms and hear their experiences. Some of the moms were on their second baby, like me. Many of the moms were on their 5th and 6th babies…WOW!! I realized today how much the little group of friends meant to me. How great it was to share the highs and lows of pregnancy, and now the ups and downs of welcoming a new baby into the family. As moms, we need companionship. However, as moms, we often don’t have the time or energy for face to face communication. I think it is great to embrace the virtual world of mom knowledge and friendships, especially at the beginning stages of having a newborn. It helps us feel less alone and more connected to others who are going through the same thing we are. I hope that this blog can be a place where you feel like you can hear what we are doing, but also share what you are doing too! We are all connected by our love of God, our children, and our husbands. So welcome, and thanks for being a part of what we have here!

How do you use technology or the Internet to connect to other moms?

    Rachel,
I too love the power of virtual groups. A few years ago I started a virtual prayer group. I had led a group in AZ but then moved back to CA. The ladies wanted to stay connected so I set up a conference call. I share for 10-15 minutes and then everyone chimes in for the next 15 minutes with praises and prayer requests. We have a new body, supporting and encouraging one another. The group ebbs and flows and is usually around 12, both men and women. We have prayer partners in CA, WA, Oregon and AZ. The ages range from late 20’s to 70 years. This is the blog for the teaching and happy to share the # for the call or help anyone who would like to start their own.

Thanks for your encouraging words. We will definitely check out this website and would love that phone number to try phone forums for various topics or to establish support groups.
