The Best Gift
For me, Christmas time is all about giving! I love making and giving homemade baked goodies, jams and creative crafts. I love sending cards and receiving cards and catching up on the year in review from friends all over the world. I love Christmas parties, cookie exchanges, tacky sweater parties, gingerbread house decorating parties. I love everything about Christmas because Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus and Jesus is the GREATEST GIFT! A tiny baby born in a manger changed the world forever.
What child is this, who, laid to rest,
On Mary’s lap lay sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him love,
The Babe, the son of Mary.
Why lies he in such mean estate
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christian, fear: for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
So bring him incense, gold, and myrrh,
Come, peasant, king, to own him.
The King of kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone him.
How often do we stop during the Christmas season to appreciate the gift of Jesus. How often do we listen to the words of our favorite Christmas carols that proclaim the majesty and deity of Jesus, our Emmanuel, God with us!
Living for God is a relentless pursuit of holiness. Holiness during the Christmas season means putting aside my agenda, my lists of “to dos” and my tendency to want everything to look, taste and be absolutely perfect. Holiness means spending more time with friends and family celebrating the JOY of the season. Holiness means serving my husband and honoring him even when I have a long “honey do list”. This Christmas season my goal is to genuinely GIVE myself to serving those i love. I want to open my eyes to the beauty of the season, open my hands to help others when there is any kind of need, open my mind to find opportunities to share about the real meaning of Christmas and open my heart to all the blessings that God has to give me and all the love I can pass on to others.
