Polka-Dot Party

For Elliana’s 2nd Birthday we had a polka-dot themed party. A theme party is a great way to stay organized and have a lot of fun.

The idea started small from a pair of polka-dot pants and then soon became a spectacular polka-dot extravaganza!

We found the pants at Carter’s first, then picked out some fabric at Joann’s for personalized birthday shirts.

A friend made me adorable tutus in bright colors I picked to compliment the polka-dot pants.

Next step was to pick out decorations. The plan was to keep things round, like polka-dots, and colorful.

We went to Party City, the store of all things party! We chose solid colored table cloths in pink, purple, blue, and green. We found polka dot napkins and plain yellow plates to make a nice contrast with the table clothes. I bought bright colored puff balls for a decoration project.

We found colorful bouncy balls, bubbles, party hats, and sidewalk chalk for treat bags. I made rice crispy treats with round and colorful Trix cereal with a recipe we found on Pinterest from Cravings of a Lunatic.

I made Elliana a special party hat by gluing the puff balls around the hat.

I made weighted centerpieces for the table using tin cans I had saved for crafting. I covered the cans with white contact paper and then hot glued the colored puff balls around the top of the rim. I stuck dowels in circles of Styrofoam and filled the cans with dirt so that they would weigh down the table cloth and hold up the polka-dot garlands.

My friend, and creator of Brooklyn Owl, made an assortment of handmade polka dot goodies for the party: a polka-dot bow tie for my husband, polka-dot hair bows for myself and the girls, and polka-dot felt garlands for decor. She even sent me extra polka-dot circles that we hot glued to a t-shirt for me.

We had a “make your own snack” activity for the kids with circle shaped snacks. (Detailed post to come next week!).

My crafty mother-in-law was in charge of the cake and the cupcakes. Her cupcakes with candy sugar dots were a huge success with the kids.

The best part about this theme party was the participation of family and friends. I invited people to wear polka-dots with us for fun. To my delight, many of the guest wore polka dots and even gave Elliana polka-dot themed presents in polka-dot decorated bags!! It was amazing!

I had a blast with the theme party and I encourage you to try a theme for your next birthday bash!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELLIANA!
