Just Add Water
With a baby and a toddler to entertain all day, I am all about simplicity! So, when the weather is nice and you are ready for some fun, “just add water!” Kids love water and it is easy to clean up (when you are outside or in the bath, of course!). Elliana loves water, so we have tried a lot of different water activities. We have used buckets, a water table, the hose, and a kiddie pool.
I have also added some fun accessories to our water play, which can offer some different learning components to the water play: Boats to teach floating, cups of different sizes to practice transferring water from one place to another, and paint brushes to paint on the concrete with water (this could be extended to letter practice or writing practice for older children).
One of my favorite things about water play is just letting Elliana play. She uses the different accessories and tools in her own way and has a blast. Sometimes I step in and show her how to use the paintbrush, or make the boats float, but it is just as rewarding to step back and let her take charge – with my camera ready to capture every moment!
Sprinklers are another great way to play in the water. The other day we were on a walk in her Little Tikes plastic car and we went for a “car wash” through the neighbors sprinklers. I just drove her through the water that was splashing on the sidewalk. She loved it!
