Celebrating the Little Things
My husband and I LOVE to celebrate! Whether it is celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, the SF Giants beating the LA Dodgers or scoring a great grade on a test, celebrating another completed week of med school with a pancake breakfast or even celebrating 10 minute breaks from studying with playing a game of cards or catch; we have really learned this last year through medical school the importance of embracing each moment that we get together no matter how small. We take every chance we get to plan a memorable day trip, to make unforgettable memories or have a special ice cream sundae 🙂
Recently, we celebrated Opening Day for our favorite baseball team, the San Francisco Giants! Even though we were lucky enough to have an extra month of baseball when they won the World Series last season, we still felt like it had been SOO long since the Giants last played! Needless to say, we were pretty excited for Opening Day! In the midst of Ashkon ‘s non-stop studies for medical school, I try to take every opportunity I can to make a “normal” day extra special! I planned a festive All-American meal of burgers, veggie burgers, and potato wedges, complete with his favorite Grenadian soda, Ting! I also found some PERFECT PRINTABLES for the game, thanks to “The Dating Divas”! Go here to print out your own for your next MLB Date Night or be creative and create your own date night with these cute printables!

We also celebrated our 5 year Date-iversary! Five years ago, on April 27, 2008, Ashkon and I became “official”. Since that day, we have celebrated each April 27 to remember our time of meeting, getting to know each other and all the memories after that! It is such a great “excuse” to look back to when we fell in love. This April 27, I made Ashkon’s favorite Crock-pot Fajitas (Recipe to come to Growing Weisser later!), with homemade whole wheat tortillas toasted with muenster cheese (a new favorite!) and brownies, topped with ice cream!! However, the day before, we got the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go to the Northern part of the island to watch HUGE leatherback turtles lay their eggs on the beach! It was so amazing and I know it will be a date-iversary that we will never forget!
Here our a few pictures from my friend Allison Gray, who is an amazing photographer! We could only use red light, no flash when taking pictures, so we wouldn’t harm the turtles- but she was still able to get some extraordinary photos!
This week, we have the opportunity to celebrate our MOMS in a variety of big or smalls ways! It is important that we show them or tell them know how much we love them! For me, celebrating my mom is no little thing! I think I have the greatest mom in the world 🙂 She is selfless, creative, an amazing example of how to be a light for Christ and show His love to others, to name a few qualities! She has made me want to strive to be as good of a mom to my own kids someday! Although I will be thousands of miles away this Mother’s Day, I will be sure to let my mom know how much I’m thinking about her and how much I love her on her special day! I’m not doing anything extravagant for her, but sometimes the little things can make the biggest impact. So, although Mother’s day is not a little thing to celebrate, try to do something that will make a huge impression on your mom to show her how much she means to you, no matter how big or small of a celebration it is!
Bekah,
You are an AMAZING DAUGHTER! I am so blessed by you!
