Recharged by Keeping Track of your Life with a Planner

Planning, scheduling, arranging, coordinating, and remembering… It is our life. It is in our nature. It is what we do.  One thing we all usually struggle with is… TIME MANAGEMENT. How can we fit it all in? How can we fill up our busy schedule even more?

With everything going digital, the art of keeping a written planner is becoming a lost art. But I find it still very useful. I love to write things down. I love to take notes. I love to keep track of my days. Yes ICal and Google Calendar are very helpful to keep track of big dates, trips, and events and share them with other people. But when it comes to the details, I keep a pen and notebook in hand.

Some tips for Organizing your Planner:

  • APPEARANCE: Pick out a planner with a cover you like, if the cover is plain, add some pictures, stickers, or decorations
  • LOCATION: Keep the planner out where you can see it each morning, where you eat breakfast or have your morning quiet time
  • PREPARED: keep a pen or pencil handy
  • COLOR CODED: use different colors for different categories, types of events, or different kids activities if you have multiple kids
  • SPECIAL DATES: Write birthdays/anniversaries on the month section and the day section
  • LEFT SIDE: Write down the schedule and times of appts on the left
  • RIGHT SIDE: Write a list of to do’s on the right for your daily to do list
  • DAILY TO DO LIST: If it isn’t finished on the specific day, add it to the next days to do list
  • EXTRA LISTS: Put big grocery lists or party details on a separate notes page or a post it note you can stick on the page
  • ADD LATER: If something wasn’t planned and comes

Recharge your Summer in 15 Ways!

picture from picspaper.com

Summer always makes me so happy. I wish it was summer all year round. I love the sun. I love the warmth. I love being outside. I love how late it stays light. I love it all. It always makes me think of being a kid, getting to ride my bike, getting to stay out late, getting to swim endless hours, just pure joy. But I can experience that same innocent and exuberant joy as an adult too! I just may have to try a little harder. I may have to put away my distractions, turn off my busy brain, and just be.

  • Think of things that make you happy
  • Think of a memory that makes you laugh
  • Take a nap outside
  • Do something you did as a kid
  • Get something from the ice cream truck
  • Call a grandparent and ask them a story about their childhood
  • Try something new
  • Check something off your bucket list
  • Try a new recipe
  • Go on an adventure
  • Ride a bike
  • Read a book
  • Go on a walk
  • Find a farmers market
  • Make a new friend

Enjoy each day you have. Make the most of life. The Lord takes delight in you. He wants you to be filled with joy, exude happiness, and overflow with life. So do what makes you happy.

Zephaniah 3:17  “The Lord your God is with you,
    the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”

A quote from one of my favorite authors Shauna Niequist in her book Cold Tangerines

“I want a life that sizzles and pops and makes me laugh out loud. And I don’t want to get to

Get Out & Get Refreshed – Summer Version

Are you bored by your schedule and routine? Are you in a rut? Sometimes all you need is to get outside or get out of your routine to get a little refreshment! Here are five fun (maybe NEW) ideas to do just that:

1. Try a New Activity with Friends

A few friends and I have recently been planning to attend a “Paint Nite.” There are paint studios all over where you go and get a step-by-step process to all paint the same picture (and it usually includes wine which is a bonus for many!). We are really excited to go be crafty, spend some quality time together, and try something new – and we get a canvas painting out of it, too! Rachel recently tried the “Ladies Night Out” at her local rock climbing gym with friends! There are so many fun, inexpensive ways to find refreshment.

“Learning something new is a fabulous way to be refreshed. When work can grind you down, something about learning a new activity thrills the soul. It reminds you that the world is bigger than your desk and your to-do list.” John Ortberg

2. Go on a Date somewhere you have never been!

Try that new restaurant you have always been wanting to go to; Find a local, free activity; Go somewhere in the city you have never been; go to a movie in the park; find a yoga event in the park; go to a new exercise class with your spouse or find a video online (try YouTube!)

Join a Yoga Challenge! We are currently doing #BackToBackbendsChallenge on Instagram with @kinoyoga @beachyogagirl and @aloyoga for the month of July! Find the challenge on my profile @bekahb623 to join!

3. Go on a Walk, Run, Hike or Bike Ride; Go to a new

Release Control

IMG_6137                                                                            picture from elev8.hellobeautiful.com                              Why do I struggle with control? Why do I try to hold on to it so tight? Why do I act like I can’t let go? Do I live by its my way or the highway mentality? Am I that stubborn? Am I that much of a control freak?

What I have realized is my problem is that I don’t trust God enough.  If I did, I would let him be in control.  If I trusted He is who He says He is, if I trusted his way, trusted his sovereignty, I would let him be in control. If I am working so hard to take control, that must be because I think I can do it better. Which is way off. God doesn’t even need me. He loves me. But he doesn’t need me. I get the blessing of being a part of His family and His plan when I join His team. What happens when a player tries to take control of the game without listening to the coach? It never goes well does it? The coach knows what they are doing and has the best interest of the players at heart. So we can’t take the control that isn’t meant to be ours. We have to trust the coach.

In the Bible there are countless stories of people trying to take things into their own control rather than trusting God. It is obvious when there is a big catastrophe or a larger consequence for actions of taking control.  But what about the little ways? What about the small things we have in our own lives that we think God doesn’t see. Or we think he doesn’t care about.  He wants everything.  He is God.  Wouldn’t you rather have the God of the universe in …

Maybe You Needed This, Too

I sat down to write my post yesterday when I came upon this article. As soon as I started reading it, I knew that it was something I needed to see. And, if it was something I needed to see, then someone else out there may need this encouragement, too! So, today I have decided to share with you an article from Relevant Magazine to remind you that…

“God is far more gracious, more gentle and tenderhearted toward our                                           anxious hearts than we understand.”

Anxiety Is a Spiritual Issue

How the Bible deals extensively with anxiety—and its roots.

by RACHAEL DYMSKI MAY 26, 2015

Anxiety

One of the easiest ways to disable a person, I think, is to make them anxious.

I am not talking about an anxiety disorder, a diagnosable mental disorder that can be treated by doctors, therapy or medication. (To learn about about anxiety disorders and how to receive help, you can visit NIMH.NIH.gov.) I am talking about a general anxiousness, worrying, asking what ifs that are a part of everyday life. I am talking about the discomfort caused by the mind racing faster than mouth or logic, worrying about tomorrow, worrying about all that we don’t know or about what could happen.

The Bible is far from silent on the topic of anxiety. It says so much about worry, the faithfulness of God, and how we are to respond to it. Here are a few ways the Bible addresses anxiety.

We Are Cared For

Often in the Church, worry is looked upon as a sin. Often, people don’t like to talk about it because it’s almost taboo; those who do bring it up are frequently offered quick solutions of “God is good” or “Have more faith.”

The Bible though, is gentle toward those who worry. In

Memorial Day Fun and Crafts

I love our preschool co-op. Yesterday I hosted and the theme was “Memorial Day.” Just in time to share some fun decorations and crafts with you.

Decorations:

I was very excited to pull out this Red, White, and Blue Felt Garland that I made last year for Fourth of July.

Attire:

Free Time/Sensory Time:

I made Star-Spangled Slime combining the idea from icanteachmychild and this helpful video from about.com.

IMG_2420

Here’s how I made the slime:

You will need glue (clear glue for transparent slime or white glue for opaque slime), borax, water, food coloring (optional), and star confetti.

Mix 1 tsp borax in 1 cup water and stir to dissolve. In a separate bowl, combine 1 container of glue with 1/2 cup water. You can add food coloring if you want your slime to have a color. Mix the two solutions and add the confetti. HAVE FUN. Store the slime in an air tight container or zip lock bag.

Circle Time:

To introduce the theme I shared with the kids that Memorial Day is a day to honor the men and women who died serving our country. It is a day for peace and prayer. I introduced some vocabulary words about Memorial Day and had the children take turns matching the words and pictures to the words and picture on my easel.

I passed out small flags to the children and we sang two flag songs from a great pdf file I downloaded from oopseydaisyblog.

Screen Shot 2015-05-20 at 3.37.16 PM

We counted to 70 using groups of 10 stars. I used simple star stickers that I purchased at JoAnn’s.

Snack:

For snack I had the kids make their own flag designs with graham crackers, blueberries, strawberries, and marshmallows.

Crafts:

1. Flags

We sang a song about the American Flag to teach the kids …
