Fit For Fall Begins!
This week we jumped into our Fit For Fall Challenge!
Why do we LOVE challenges? Challenges provide a community of support and accountability PLUS help you get focused on your goals.
Having goals is so important. It keeps you focused and helps direct your daily actions.
This week we challenged our group to write down their goals and share them on Facebook. The process of writing down goals is important for actually accomplishing your goals.
I love these 5 reasons writing down your goals will help you accomplish them from Michael Hyatt (Who has one of my favorite podcast! Check him out!)
- Forces you to be specific
- Motivates you (and guides you) to take action.
- Provides a filter for opportunities that arise. You can ask yourself “Does this help me get closer to or further from my goal?”
- Helps you persevere and overcome resistance.
- Helps you see the journey – how far you’ve come!
What are YOU working on? What are your goals?
I challenge you to write them down and SHARE them. If you share on social media tag us @growingweisser!
Here are my health goals for the next 60 days!

What does it mean to be healthy? What kinds of things do you do to be healthy? We pour so much time and effort into healthy living, healthy eating, healthy habits, and healthy thinking. It takes intentional effort. It takes planned out thought. It takes discipline. It takes saying yes to certain things and no to others. In the moment you may be what you think might be sacrificing, but you are trying to make certain choices, change, and change your lifestyle because of the lasting benefit.
Some people call it dieting, others call it healthy living. But it is all the same thing. It all comes down to changing your actions to change the effect. What should really be focusing on is creating a healthy lifestyle. Because then it isn’t just a fad, the newest trend, or a temporary phase. A changed lifestyle lasts. When you first start a diet you usually cut things out or add things in. Have less dessert throughout the week, make healthier choices at meals, and control your portions. The more established those habits become, the more routine it becomes. It becomes second nature to make healthy choices. It becomes a part of who you are. Usually over time you prefer the good things rather than the instant pleasure of the not so healthy things. Your appetite changes. Your cravings change. And you change.
Often times faith and a spiritual life is seen as something that is regimented and monitored. You have to “do” all these things to feel close to God. There is a continual push to read your Bible, pray, and be surrounded by good people. And we say it is because you feel closer to the Lord through these things, you feel centered on the truth of God, …

Decisions and Trust
This week I sent my first baby to school. I cannot believe this day has come already! With lots of praying and trust (and lots of moments of doubt) we started her at our amazing local public school. She has been so excited to go to school and I know this will be an amazing time of change and challenge for her.
We debated for a long time what to do – homeschool, charter, public? As a credentialed teacher I really wanted to homeschool. I loved the idea of designing our own learning schedule and days and thought of all the fun we would have. (Of course I tried not to think too hard about all the work I would have to do!) She was very adamant that she wanted to go to school. I really loved one of our local charters, but would have to drive for drop off and pick up every day. I decided it would be best for our family this year to have the option to walk her to school and walk to pick her up.
I think it is that way with most things. We have to make a decision that is best for our family and trust in that choice. Although I still have moments of doubt, there have been so many reassurances that this is God’s plan. A friend’s daughter is in Ellie’s class, which has meant a built-in instant friend! We’ve walked to and from school together and it has been great to have someone to talk to about all my fears and hesitations and know someone else went through the exact same thing! Ellie has an amazing teacher– ok I’m sure EVERYONE thinks their teacher is the best, but it was really cool to have a parent speak up about …

Our little bundle of joy arrived Thursday July 21, 2016 at 6:23am. It has been quite a whirlwind the past couple weeks but we are so blessed that he came early so we could spend even more time with him. We are loving every minute of it.
Decorating new rooms can be fun! I got the blessing of decorating my new baby boy’s room the last couple months and I loved how it turned out.
How to decorate a nursery
- Choose a theme or color combo.
- Buy the main pieces of furniture such as crib or changing table to set the stage
- Prioritize what you would like to buy, you probably won’t be able to buy everything exactly as you want. (furniture, sheets, decorations, glider, bookshelf, shelves, storage, dresser, closet storage, hamper, trashcan)
- Look for ideas on Pinterest
- Think of how you want to store things
- Ask a lady that is already a mom to come over to help think through what should go where
- Don’t be too set on exacts. Things may change. When your baby is here, things may need to be rearranged or in different spots.
- Register for something fun that you may not buy yourself
- Measure and know dimensions of things you are looking for
- Think through what you can make or craft if anything
- Start shopping! Or start looking on sale facebook groups!
Here’s how mine turned out
Lanterns from home depot. Homemade garland and wood planks.
Shelf from world market. Bins and wall decor from Target
Height ruler from Deeliteful Designs. Bins from Marshalls, Target, Homegoods
Teepee from Target

Read MoreWhat Voice Do You Listen To?
There are so many voices in the world. Many of them likely tell you you aren’t fit enough, healthy enough, strong enough, good enough, mom enough, focused enough…the list could go on and on.
I know this struggle. I have the voices in my head and sadly, voices of others.
But you know what? You ARE enough. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You might not be “there” yet, but you will be.
In the midst of all those voices saying “work harder, be better” one voice is telling you “I love you the same yesterday, today, and forever.” And that’s God’s voice.
So next time you are looking for your significance in things of this world, stop looking out and look UP to him in prayer and look IN His word, for His truths.
And remember that we are the light of the world. We need to shine these truths to others with our words and actions. We need to use our voices to build others up and pour love and encouragement into others.
My challenge to you today is to say one positive thing to yourself ALL day, OVER and OVER. Then contact 5 friends and tell them why they are beautiful or why you love them.

Tomatoes, Tomatoes….what a blessing to have so many tomatoes. I planted a variety of heirloom seeds and I have the BEST crop of tomatoes I have every experienced. Yesterday I tried making a batch of Marinara sauce with my Italian style Marinara heirloom tomatoes. The result was the BEST tasting sauce ever! Thanks to my Italian cooking classes in Florence during my college years…I think I was able to recreate a sauce like the one I learned to make in the kitchen of the Villa Salviatino.
Marinara Sauce Ingredients
4 pounds ripe tomatoes
1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
5 cloves of garlic mashed
1 medium bunch basil
1-2 sprigs thyme
1 Tablespoon fresh oregano
2 Tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon sea salt
1-2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
½ teaspoon balsamic vinegar
Cut up all the tomatoes into small pieces. Set aside. Heat the oil in a heavy pot that has a well insulated bottom so as to prevent the sauce from sticking and burning as it simmers and thickens. Add the garlic to the pot and sauté on medium low until cooked, stirring constantly so it does not brown. Add the tomatoes and all the juice to the pot. Place the bunches of herbs into the pot. Do not worry about the stems. You can pull the stems out after the sauce has simmered and thickened. I pulled half of the basil leaves off the stems because I like blending them into the sauce. Raise heat and bring to a simmer. Turn to low and cover for 30 minutes. Uncover and add the salt, pepper, sugar, red pepper flakes and balsamic vinegar. Stir and return to a low simmer and cook for another 30-60 minutes, stirring often. Remove herb stems from sauce. Let sauce …

This week in our Summer Sizzle challenge we are focusing on tracking our steps.
Tracking your steps is a great way to keep yourself active and motivated to move your body. Setting a daily goal reminds you to move around and look for opportunities to “Get Stepping.”
It can be as simple as parking your car a little further away from the store, taking the stair instead of the elevator. For you moms, play WITH your kids instead of watching. Make plans with friends to go walking or hiking. Listen to podcasts while you walk to fill your mind with positive and uplifting things or to learn new information. Walk around when you are on the phone (this is one of my favorites!).
Most of the members in our family use a FitBit to track their steps. This is nice because it syncs with your phone so you don’t have to have your phone with you to track your steps. The new iPhones come with a health app that automatically tracks your steps, but only when you are moving WITH your phone. My husband uses this app to track his steps on his work day because he keeps his phone on his belt attachment. I use Map My Run on my run days to track mileage and I like that it shows you your route and gives you updates every mile!
Whatever app or step tracker you use, I love the idea of staying motivated to move your body.
