Reunions-JUST SHOW UP

Reunions are a wonderful time to reconnect with family and friends. Reunions bring opportunities to grow deeper in interpersonal relationships as well as build new friendships. Great memories are made through activities that are planned, combined with spontaneous fun that just happens when family and friends gather.…

Why is it so hard to “Do What is Right”?

For many people, “doing what is right” is not a knowledge problem, it is an obedience problem. Its not that people actually do not know right from wrong any more (although sometimes I really wonder), more often that not, they are just too stubborn, prideful, selfish, lazy, angry…etc. to make wise choices. Then they justify, rationalize, blame etc. and quickly fall into a lifestyle of apathy, complacency and justification that the choice they made was not so bad after all. The more a person compromises when it comes to right and wrong choices, especially in the gray areas of life, the easier it gets to settle for second best.…

“Let No One Look Down on your Youthfulness”

This past week, I had the privilege of filling out a questionnaire that is going to be used in the future as a featured article on a friend’s blog. The two of us grew up on the same street and although she was a few years younger than me, I had a fond affection for all the members of her family. Their parents were solid Christians and I truly admired how they raised their kids and what giving and caring people they were.  When our family moved to the town that we have lived in for the past 20 plus years, she was the first person that reached out to me and welcomed me and my family into our new community. …

Windows

Last January I had ample opportunity to contemplate windows since we had new windows installed everywhere in our house.IMG_6017

A “window of opportunity” for me to be still, snuggle under a blanket and try to stay warm and think. There are windows in our homes, in our schools, in our places of employment. We use windows to look OUT into the world. …

Living Beyond Yourself

This last Friday, I led my first women’s Bible study! We are doing a study called Living Beyond Yourself by Beth Moore! If you have never done a Beth Moore study, I highly recommend it! She is one passionate lady ready to kick your butt into gear to have your life transformed through God’s Word! For our first meeting, we got to know each other a little better since there were first-timers to the island, returners of the group from last year, and students joining the group for the first time!We watched the introductory session video that broke down the foundation of our study- Living Beyond Yourself. There were so many great points, but I am going to highlight some of my favorites that Beth taught us.…

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me,
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind but now I see.

I was inspired by a sermon that I heard a few weeks ago. The pastor was sharing his teaching on Psalms 66 and was emphasizing all the AWESOME things that God has done as expressed by the Psalmist. God has done amazing things for ME, for US-the corporate church and for EVERYONE.…

Spiritually Healthy

What does it mean to be healthy? What kinds of things do you do to be healthy? We pour so much time and effort into healthy living, healthy eating, healthy habits, and healthy thinking. It takes intentional effort. It takes planned out thought. It takes discipline. It takes saying yes to certain things and no to others. In the moment you may be what you think might be sacrificing, but you are trying to make certain choices, change, and change your lifestyle because of the lasting benefit.…

Music with Meaning

After my family moved to a new city almost 2 years ago, I was very disappointed to find that unless you are partial to country music, good radio is hard to come by. However, I did find a new radio station called Air One, with the tagline: “The Positive Alternative.” The radio station is often on in my car now, and I am reaping the benefits of the positive, God-inspired words in the songs. Music is such a great way to praise God. When the days are long and tiring and I don’t have much time to read the Bible, I can hear God’s voice and find inspiration from these songs.…

Bringing in the Harvest

In the gospel of John, chapter 4, verses 34-35, Jesus says, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work. Do you not say ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”

Jesus is referring to a harvest of souls, people who are longing for love, security and a deeply significant purpose and direction for their lives. The disciples think he is speaking of a literal harvest of grain. Jesus often uses word pictures to get us to think outside the box. His words challenge us to find significance in our day to day lives and to use our circumstances to reflect His light and His love in our choices and behaviors.

Growing a vegetable garden has many benefits. Not only will it provide nutritionally beneficial food for you to enjoy at your dinner table, it can engage your children in a family project that will provide lasting memories. …
