Reorganize yourself
Picture from http://www.manataka.org
How often do you sit down and really think about the question “Who am I?” Or do you just run from thing to thing busying yourself with all these different hats that often have the ability to form your identity. But if you take a moment to think deeper, Who are you? It isn’t always comfortable is it? Does it make you feel content, restless, anxious, satisfied? Is it hard to come up with an answer? If you take the time to think about this, does it change anything?
I have been struggling with this. Who am I? Right now, all I feel like I am is a mess. I feel like I can’t keep up. I feel restless. I feel bored. I feel too busy. But I know deep down that isn’t who it is. But why is it taking over? I know I am a child of God, I know I am valuable to God, I know I have purpose in God. But I give in to this world that screams insecurity, success, comparison, all those things that get in the way of my true identity. And its overwhelming. Rather than being overwhelmed by the power of Christ in me and my identity in him, I am overwhelmed by the inadequacies I feel and the things I am not doing. I am distracted by too many things. I am filling time rather than filling my soul. But God created me as me. Unique, in Him, with purpose. And I want to be able to live in that. So I need to take some time to think, “Who am I”? “How did God make me me?” I want to be free in me. I want to be free to run recklessly, passionate about life. And be …

There are 15 million orphans across sub-Saharan Africa and their 20-40 year old parents have died of HIV/AIDS. This year the numbers are expected to increase to 21 million or more due to the drought and severe food shortage. One million of these orphans live in Malawi, Africa, where some very special “Gogos” (grandmothers) are caring for these orphans in the rural villages. Many of these “Gogos” are caring for 2 or 3 children or more. They each have a small plot of ground to cultivate and grow enough to eat if the maize crop is good. This year, the lack of rain and poor harvest mean there will be hunger and starvation in the months ahead.
SAFE (Sub-Saharan African Family Enrichment, a registered NGO and approved 501©3 non-profit organization) facilitates partnerships between poor gogos and groups in the U.S. called Gogo Grandmothers. The Gogo Grandmother groups raise funds to provide the grandmothers with seeds, fertilizers, mosquito nets, blankets, preschool for younger orphans and school fees and supplies for older orphans. The Gogo Grandmother groups gather to pray for the Gogos regularly. The Gogos in Africa are given spiritual encouragement, nutrition training and education in child development and hygiene. This is a fantastic heart-to-heart relationship that brings joy to Gogos in Africa and is an opportunity for LOVE in …

“Fear, in any form, is crippling and life threatening. But we must realize that fear does not come from the Lord. And if we entertain that fear, we are rejecting the peace and protection we have been given through Christ.
Where do you see/feel fear creeping up in your life? Is it in your job, your marriage, are you afraid for your kids? Or maybe you’re afraid to chase after your dreams and take a leap of faith?
Whether or not you pray or read a Bible, I encourage you all to read through theses mental shifts on how to overcome fear. Say them outloud whenever you feel fear sneaking up on you, and commit to no longer being controlled by it!!” – Lori Lasco
Though we might not always be fearless, by praying specifically for qualities found in God’s Word, we can fear less. If you’re battling fear on any level or in any area of your life, I’d like to invite you to do the same.
Instead of praying that fear will be far from us, we can ask God to give us strong, bold and courageous hearts (Joshua 1:9)
Reorganize and Think Outside the Box
Reorganize
Last week I had the incredible privilege of being included in a reorganization process where two groups were merging into one. Both groups had a common foundational vision to care for the poor and underprivileged and both groups had grown out of a common passion to serve Christ, show love in action and make a difference. Reorganizing brings fresh opportunities, new ways of solving problems and renewed energy. Reorganizing challenges us to think outside the box and to open our hearts and minds to new ideas.
Some principles I learned through this process are emphasized in these passages from the bible(The Message version).
“If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care — then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.”
Philippians 2:1-4 MSG
“So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:22-25 MSG
Communication is key when one is working with others to help them refocus and reorganize. When I am trying to encourage relationship reorganization and influence others to change, I must be willing …

It’s a powerful feeling to be forgiven for a mistake you’ve made. Knowing that although we messed up, we get a new chance to be better and to do better. As part of our sinful nature we are going to mess up and make mistakes A LOT. But we are also saved by grace–and forgiven by a love so powerful that he throws our mistakes as far as the east is to the west.
“As distant as the east is from the west, that is how far he has removed our sins from us.” -Psalm 103:12
As I was recharging myself this week by forgiveness this song came on the radio and it just so perfectly portrayed God’s forgiveness. Let the words rush over you, empower you, and fill you will joy that you serve a God that forgives. The song is called, Drops in the Ocean, by Hawk Nelson.
“Drops In The Ocean”
Won’t you lay down your guard and come to me
The shame that grips you now is crippling
It breaks my heart to see you sufferingCause I am for you
I’m not against youIf you wanna know
How far my love can go
Just how deep, just how wide
If you wanna see
How much you mean to me
Look at my hands, look at my side
If you could count the times I’d say you are forgiven
It’s more than the drops in the ocean
Don’t think you need to settle for a substitute
When I’m the only love that changes you
And I am for you
I’m not against you
I am for you
I’m not against you
If you wanna know
How far my love can go
Just how deep,
What Recharges YOU?
One of my favorite things about summer is having time to read! I love books and I love setting aside time each day to read. It is not as though I don’t read during the other seasons but there is something very special to me about summer reading…it might be the opportunity to read for pure pleasure or maybe it’s the memories that come to mind as I sit for an hour in the afternoon sun and read a novel. I love to listen to audio books, podcasts and learn about the lives of interesting people. We just spent hours in the car last week listening to a dramatic presentation of the life of C.S. Lewis during the war, then we listened to the unabridged audiobooks of Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters. My mind was challenged to think outside the box and was filled with mind boggling questions. I am RECHARGED by having my mind opened up to new ways of thinking and discovering concepts about life and eternity. C. S. Lewis was a brilliant thinker, philosopher and a strong enthusiast for the cause of Christ. He was creative and innovative and every book I have ever read that he authored has shaped my life in a positive way.
Right now I am reading a book called Gripped by the Greatness of God by James MacDonald.
This week I read and reread a passage in the bible from Isaiah 55:1-13 that the author used to impress upon his readers that a good way to insure finishing strong in one’s life is to look for and follow people who are passionately acknowledging the greatness of God. Those people find a complete satisfaction in following God and they believe in the absolute truth of the bible that produces confidence, teaches …
Release Your Priorities
I constantly struggle to find time for myself or the things I think I need or want to do. I have been working for a while on getting organized and prioritizing my day to maximize what little time I have. I think, “once I find the perfect formula of daily activities I will be more productive.” Although this is true, I’ve lost sight of the one thing that needs to be first and foremost in every day and every thought–God’s plan for my day and God’s plan for my life.
How fitting that as I’ve been struggling with this a perfect song came on the radio today. This is why I love Air1 Positive Hits radio–the lyrics of God’s love and promises for our lives reminds me of his perfect plans for me.
The song that I heard today was, “First, ” by Lauren Daigle. Here are the lyrics:
Before I bring my need
I will bring my heart
Before I lift my cares
I will lift my arms
I wanna know You
I wanna find You
In every season
In every moment
Before I bring my need
I will bring my heart
And seek You
(chorus)
First
I want to seek You
I want to seek You
First
I want to keep You
I want to keep You
First
More than anything I want, I want You
First
Before I speak a word
Let me hear Your voice
And in the midst of pain
Let me feel Your joy
I wanna know You
I wanna find You
In every season
In every moment
Before I speak a word
I will bring my heart
And seek You
(chorus)
First
I want to seek You
I want to seek You
First
I want to keep You
I want to keep You…
Release your Fears
Picture from http://www.emotionallyresilientliving.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Releasing-your-Fears.jpg
Have you ever felt a physical affect from being afraid? In your mind you feel anxious, uncertain, and hesitant. But in your body you may actually be able to feel the tension, the strain, and the heightened senses. But what is that fear? Is there really a danger? Or is the situation blown out of proportion because of a bias, a preconceived idea, or an opinion? Some of our bodies affects are good things. Sometimes we need that extra adrenaline or the alert of danger. But what about when our fears are just holding us back from who we want to be?
Fear prepares us to react. But reactions are impulses, in the moment gut feelings, and can’t sometimes be far from reality. We go into fight or flight mode. Rather than being able to assess the information, listen to our hearts, minds, and feelings, we react. Being aware of fears, of your triggers, or your anxieties can have a huge influence on how it affects you. Fears will most likely always be there, they will come and go. But the more we recognize them, the more we are able to put on the necessary armor to battle against them. Have you recognized your fears? Or are you blind to them? Think through what keeps you up at night, what keeps you from doing things, what are those gut reactions that leave you unsettled? Be real with your fears. And Be real with what you can do about them. And release them.
What can you do?
- Talk to someone about them
- Think about what your reactions are, then go backwards to what your fears may be
- Breathe
- Yoga, or something that relaxes you
- Call a friend
- Pray specifically over the actual fear
- Ask for Prayer from other
Lessons Released
My husband and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary yesterday, so marriage was definitely on my mind – looking back on our favorite memories from the year, having conversations about what we want for this next year… I reread an email last night that I received from FamilyLife with a Happy Anniversary message. The top suggestions for marriage that they shared from couples who have been married a long time were CELEBRATE, FORGIVE, and KEEP GROWING TOGETHER! It continued on with Dennis Rainey, the President, CEO and co-founder of FamilyLife, and his 40 years of marriage. When Dennis’s and, his wife, Barbara’s 40th anniversary occurred, he decided to create his list of “40 Lessons for 40 Years of Marriage.” These lessons are so important and vital to a strong, God-centered marriage. They include keeping God #1 in your marriage, praying together, forgiveness and more! Below are the Top 10 Lessons – the link for the full list of “40 Lessons From 40 Years of Marriage” is at the bottom of the article. These are life lessons I want in my marriage to create a strong foundation for our family, to edify one another, so we can continue celebrating for years to come!

40 Lessons From 40 Years of Marriage
Four decades ago, I married Barbara Ann Peterson. Looking back now on the first 12 months of our marriage, I’d have to describe myself then as an idiot—repeatedly ignoring the dignity of the woman that God had brought me.
But after six children, 19 grandchildren, and decades of married life, I’ve learned some things. I think of them as 40 lessons from 40 years of marriage … and family … and life.

Release for Full Life

How do you live your life? Does what you believe make a difference in how you make decisions? Does it reflect who you are? What are you holding on to? What do you need to release? Are you living life to the fullest? Or are you missing out on something more fulfilling? This week I was reading the part in James that talks about faith and deeds.
In the book of James in the New Testament of the Bible, James 2:18-24,26 says “‘You have faith; I have deeds’. Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.…
