Love is…Valentine’s Day Craft

Do you need an easy craft to make your home more Valentine’s Day ready?? If so, keep reading. If you don’t think you do, keep reading and you might change your mind! 🙂 This craft was inspired by Bethany’s post last week on Love being Free, Filled, & Flowing and one of my favorite Bible verses.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.      1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Instructions

1. Find a blank wall or space in your home to put your artwork.

2. Choose your Valentine’s day colored construction paper and a heart template that you like. You can either create your own template by hand or find a heart online that you like and print it out.

3. Stencil the words LOVE IS and LOVE NEVER FAILS. As I have said in previous crafting posts, stencil the letters upside down so that if the trace/cut isn’t perfect the pen or pencil marks will not show on the front. Cut each letter out.

4. Trace and cut 12-14 hearts. (You can group some of the phrases or do each individually) Use a sharpie to write the words from the verse- Patient, Kind, Does Not Envy, Not Proud, Not Rude, Not Self-Seeking, Not Easily Angered, Keeps No Record of Wrongs, Does Not Delight in Evil but Rejoices With the Truth, Always Protects, Always …

Best Homemade Play Dough

You have probably already seen that “two ingredient play dough” recipe floating around. If you haven’t, don’t worry, I’m going to give it to you. If you have, I have some tips to make the experience fun and successful for you and your kiddos.

I found this recipe from Discover, Play, Learn.

Best Homemade Play Dough

1 1/2 cups cornstarch

1 cup conditioner

BEFORE YOU START:

Take off any jewelry and/or rings. You do not want to have to clean them out later.

Prepare to get messy.

I made my play dough with a 2 year old (and even let my 10 month old try), so I chose to do the mixing and the food coloring myself. I let Ellie pour the ingredients in the bowl and watch me closely as I kneaded.

NOW LET’S START:

Combine the ingredients in a bowl and knead to combine.

It will be super messy. The cornstarch fluffs up everywhere as you knead, so knead with caution. Like homemade frosting, I find that the recipe will need a little tweaking. The first time I made this I used a really nice conditioner (because I had it laying around), so the measurements were perfect. The second time I used Suave conditioner, which wasn’t as thick, so I had to add a bit more cornstarch.

You will know that your measurements are perfect when the play dough no longer sticks in clumps to your hands. I followed this recipe exactly and then shook bits of cornstarch in the bowl until it stopped being so sticky.

The more you knead the softer it gets.

GET IT PERFECT

I noticed after we started playing that the play dough was a little runny, so I added pinches of cornstarch and re-kneaded until it thickened.

You could do the …

Christmas Stockings

I love my kids and my grandkids and there are NO GIFTS that I can buy to express to them how much I LOVE them! Homemade gifts do allow me to express a bit of Mom/Gammie love. So last Christmas I decided to make matching stockings for the whole family and this year I made two more for the newest grandbabies. This was a fun project and can bring Christmas cheer to all of them each year.   …

Polka-Dot Party

For Elliana’s 2nd Birthday we had a polka-dot themed party. A theme party is a great way to stay organized and have a lot of fun.

The idea started small from a pair of polka-dot pants and then soon became a spectacular polka-dot extravaganza!

We found the pants at Carter’s first, then picked out some fabric at Joann’s for personalized birthday shirts.   …

Cinnamon Applesauce Christmas Ornaments

Christmas carols are playing in many homes and in most stores. The crowds are bustling around the malls. The calendar is filling up with holiday parties, gift exchanges, open houses and other casual get togethers. All these aspects of Christmas are wonderful, but my favorite traditions during the month of December are decorating our home, baking homemade cookies, cooking our family favorite meals and snacks, and making homemade gifts for friends and family. When the girls were young, (before Pinterest existed) we tried a new craft project each year. One that we absolutely loved was making cinnamon applesauce ornaments. They were fun and easy, inexpensive and made the house smell wonderful. So put on your favorite Christmas CD, gather these simple ingredients and have fun creating.   …

“Make Your Own Snack Bag” Activity

I had a fun snack activity at Elliana’s 2nd Birthday. (Birthday party post coming next week!).

This “make your own snack bag” activity was great for Elliana’s toddler friends because it incorporated food (a toddler favorite!), making choices (I know my toddler loves to choose), and our polka-dot/circle theme.   …

Turkey Leaves Craft

After reading Bethany’s post about nature hike crafts, I have been taking the girls on nature walks as much as possible. My strollers are filled with leaves, pine cones, and all sorts of nature bounty Ellie finds on the ground. I thought it would be fun to do another craft post using some things that Ellie could pick herself during our walks.

Ellie loves leaves, so I decided to make Turkey leaves. It was very easy to do and there are lots of ways you can adapt the craft to fit the needs of your artists.

Personalized Birthday Outfit

Next time someone you love (especially your child or grandchild) is having a birthday and you want them to feel extra special, you can make the birthday girl or birthday boy a personalized birthday shirt or onesie. We started a fun tradition for one of my granddaughters on her first birthday and we are going to continue the tradition this year, next week. Here is the ruffled onesie I made for her last year and she wore it with purple baby leggings.   …
