The Culture of a Spoken Word

My parents have been visiting me and my husband here in Grenada for the last few weeks.  We have done some pretty amazing things exploring the island, hiking, swimming in the bluest water any of us have every seen and so much more. There was something about this trip that was unique. Through meeting new people and developing relationships with some of the locals at my parent’s resort and during the activities we did, we learned some very interesting information. Through personal stories and history of Grenada, we were informed how they pass on their knowledge through their families. It was so interesting to learn because this part of their culture is so often foreign in America. The way that many Grenadians pass on traditions and family heritage is through hands-on demonstration only when a child asks or shows an interest in something. …

The Week of 10,000 Steps

My husband gave me an amazing gift for my last birthday- A Nike Fuel Band. However, since we lived in the Caribbean, we decided that we would order it once we were back in the states for a short summer trip. My husband loves to research things he is excited about, so when he actually had some free time for summer break, he looked at a few Fuel Band alternatives to make sure that he was getting me the best fitness band. That’s when he found the Fitbit Flex! After reading a lot of reviews and watching videos on each bands’ functions, he decided that the Fitbit Flex was the best fit for what I would be using it for! However, by the time it shipped, we were already back in Grenada. So, my parents brought it for me when they came to visit and I have been using it for the first time for the last two weeks!

Last Sunday, my husband spoke in church for the first time! He did so great and talked about something that is a constant challenge in the life of a Christ follower– not being lukewarm in our walk with the Lord. And, my parents just happened to be visiting, so it was fun for them to be here for his “sermon debut” 🙂 Since you couldn’t be here for his message and since he did such a great job, I thought that I would share some of his words with you!…

Family Dinner Night

Family dinners are such a great habit to establish within your family. Not only does it create scheduled, sit down time with family members, but a dinner table is a great place to learn more about each other and create an environment for open communication and quality time. When I was younger, I remember dinner time always being such great family time. As we got older, our schedules became busier and we would end up having picnics at the ballpark multiple times a week. However, there would still always be days during the week where we would slow down and just be together at dinnertime. And, our table was always open for more “family members”. Whether it was Friday pizza night or just a random night of the week, extra seats were always at our table.…

An All-Star Idea for the All-Star Break

Baseball fans out there! ARE YOU READY FOR THE ALL-STAR BREAK?! Ashkon and I are! Especially since the Giants are not playing well right now…lame!! But, we are hoping this break will revive and regenerate them to finish the season strong!!
Thanks to The Dating Divas, here is a fun and very cute way to make this year’s All-Star break a little more special. You can use this for your husband and have a special date night next week! Or, if you have children that love baseball, they might have fun getting a special invite to watch one or all of the all-star activities! I did this for Ashkon to get him ready for opening day, but it really works great for any part of the season, as well. It was a small task that put a big smile on his face! He loved it! Freedom in Christ

As we celebrate our independence today, we are reminded of the incredible freedom that we are blessed with by living in America! But, even more importantly, this holiday reminds me of the freedom I have in Christ! The Bible has so much to say about the freedom we obtain when we become followers of Jesus…

Romans 8:1-4
1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful humanity to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in human flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.…

Father’s Day Fun

Father’s Day is a day to celebrate your Dad, Daddy, Father, or, in my case, my Pop/Poppa! I love this day, even when I don’t get to be with him, because it is such a great reminder of how hard he works for our family, how supportive he is, how he would do anything for me, my sisters, and my mom, and how much he loves us. And in return, I want to show him or tell him these things, too!

My dad always jokes about what he would do with his time and especially with his money if he hadn’t had us four girls. We know, and he especially knows, that no amount of money could compare to how wonderful his life has been with us as his daughters ;):D However, he always likes to tell us of all the gadgets and accessories he would/could get if we didn’t “suck” all the money out. Because you can’t be a father without children, often father’s day celebrations have to be kid-friendly and may not always be a father’s first choice activity. But, it’s all about the time spent together right?! And what better place to spend a family day that kids would enjoy and to celebrate dad than at Disneyland?? But, with the crowds nowadays and the always overly-excited children that take over Disneyland, we all know how dads can get 😉 We don’t want more than one Grumpy following Snow White around!

This Father’s Day weekend (which also happens to be my dad’s birthday) we are going with the WHOLE FAMILY to Disneyland, all 16 of us!! With 6 little kids 4-and-under and a huge group of us, we are trying not to have too many expectations for the number of rides we will go on. We are just …
